1. What are your weekend services like?
Each weekend at Vertical Church you’ll find a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with engaging worship music and a practical, relevant message. Children are of the highest value to us and are well-cared for in loving, quality nursery , preschool, and elementary environments.
2. What will happen when I visit for the first time?
If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you, have you stand up, or ask you to give money. We know that many people want to check out the church and “be anonymous” for a bit—and that’s fine with us! Come in, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and see if this is the church for you.
3. What do I wear to attend your services?
We’re a pretty laid back group. Most people dress casual, and everyone leading the service will be wearing jeans. Come in what is comfortable for you, because Vertical is not about what you look like or what you wear.
4. Where are you located?
We gather on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM at Crestview Elementary School located at:
6101 Craig Road, Merriam, KS, 66202 (Just East of Antioch along Shawnee Mission Parkway)
5. What about my children?
At Vertical Church your children are a top priority, and we understand the leap of faith some people have to take to drop their kids off in a new environment with people they just met. We’ve been there too! Our nursery, pre-school and elementary environments are clean, safe, and staffed with loving workers. We currently offer kids ministry for birth – 5th grade.
6. How can I meet others and get connected?
Our hope is that from the moment you walk in our doors you’ll experience a loving community of people, but we also understand that you can attend a church service for a long time and never really ever get to know anyone. That’s why at Vertical we place a high value on being a part of a group called a Vertical Community.
Feel free to check out our Vertical Communities Page for more info and check out a 3 minute video that shows what a Vertical Community is. You can also pick up more info at our Next Steps table on Sunday mornings.
7. How can I be discipled and grow?
Our desire is to see you become a fully-devoted follower of Jesus. We believe this happens in a lot of ways, but one of the intentional ways that we see it happen at Vertical is for people over time to plug into a D-Group. Check out our D-Groups page for more info.
8. Why do you have Vertical Communities and D-Groups?
These groups are where we started as a church, and we consider them to be the foundation of who we are. In fact, we believe you haven’t fully experienced Vertical until you’ve experienced one of these groups. They will allow you to meet others in our community and develop relationships that will spur your relationship with Jesus and help you answer your questions about God.
9. What kind of involvement do you have in the community?
We believe that a church functioning the way Jesus designed it should be indispensable to it’s community. That’s why before we even opened our doors on a Sunday morning, Vertical began investing in the local elementary schools in Merriam (Merriam Park and Crestview Elementary). We want to be a church who invests where “life happens,” and we remain an active fixture in both schools in serving the teachers, administrators, and families.
